One thing that I have learnt from being a mom is that no matter how small or pointless something may be to us, it somehow impacts your baby. Whether it is the material used, the brand, or the cost (well, that affects mom and dad) but all of the above impacts what we choose for our little one, and we try our hardest to provide the best.
I didn't think much of choosing dummy chains, when I made my purchase. Basically, everything was Tommee Tippee, thus deciding the dummy chains would follow in uniform. Very few children in my family have taken to soothers, so I was surprised that the day we returned from the hospital, Axl had taken to his and has never parted, since.
At first, you don't see much point for the dummy chains, but very soon you come to the realization that it saves you from sterilising the soother every 2 minutes, you don't constantly have to look for where it has been dropped, thrown or misplaced and basically, it becomes your best friend at keeping the soother, right where it needs to be.
I have tried three different chains, each held its own list of pros and cons so I've decided that I would share my findings.
Tommee-Tippee
Pros:
- Comes in a pink or blue, 2 packs
- Combination of material and hard plastic, both easy to clean
- The part that fits to the soother is flexible and conveniently fits around soothers with a loop handle or those that do not have a handle at all
- Clip and material is strong and durable
Cons:
- The clip is big, heavy and chunky
- Weighs down clothes
- Isn't easy to clip on clothes that don't have a big area folded over
- Gets in the way
- Milk builds up in corners of the plastic clip, which is hard to reach
- Painted design scratches off, with use
NUK
Pros:
- Range of colours available
- Hard plastic means easy cleaning and sterilising
- Milk has very little or no place to build up
Cons:
- Painted design scratches off, with use
- The hard plastic is horrible if baby falls asleep pushed up against it, leaving indents on his face and hands
- If pulled hard, the links of the chain may snap
- Clip is just a little too big, and weighs clothes down
Baby Sense
Pros:
- Won't leave any indents on baby, no matter how he sleeps
- Easy to surface clean
- Clip is very small and simple, doesn't weigh clothes down at all.
- Clip is metal, which is less chance of breaking
- Milk has no place to build up
- Material is strong and durable, no chance of snapping
- Pattern cannot be scratched off
Cons:
- uhm... I am still searching for one?
Very useful information.
